From “HEAT!” to “HELP!” to HOPE! No doubt most of us have some level of anxiety about all the news these days regarding global warming. We’ve had some historically high temperatures in recent years, and this leads us to hope that someone will step up to help the situation.
Good News! The “some-ones” we’ve been waiting for are here!…and they are Us! Edward Abbey, an American author, activist and environmentalist, said that “Action is the antidote to despair.” …And Joanna Macy, another wise American author and environmental activist, added that “Hope is born from action.”
So let us—each of us, young and old and in between—hear, and heed, the call to action. May each of us find a few ways. large or small, to act on our common concerns and to help birth “hope-in-action” into reality. Let us be open to the many possibilities for helping to make a difference for the climate of our sacred planet and for the future of our children. The FCC Green Team is developing ways in which you can join the climate cause. Watch and listen for the ideas and activities they bring forth in the months and years ahead. Individually, we can take action; together we can bring forth hope.
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” (Margaret Mead, American author)
