Have you noticed the new banners outside our church? The Social Justice and Witness committee voted this summer on messages we would like to use to express who we are as a church and convey a welcoming presence to those who visit. A banner proclaiming “All are Welcome, Come As You Are” now hangs above our main entryway and the banner over the entrance on the parking lot has a colorful message of “Do Justice, Love Kindness, Walk Humbly”. The banners were designed by Libby Klein and we are grateful for the gifts of her time and talent.
The Social Justice and Witness committee receives funds as part of the church’s annual budget. This year $4,500 was designated for use towards social justice actions in the community: $2,400 has been donated to the Interfaith Food Hub, $175 was spent to sponsor a booth at the Pride Festival, and $250 was spent on the new banners. The committee is in process of discerning where the remaining funds will be given, in addition to funds given by a very generous couple in the congregation. We are guided by our core values and try to insure that our gifts of our church’s time and money are balanced across areas of need. Please contact the committee if you would like to join us (socialjustice@fcceugene.org).
