Elder Council News
Since 2013, a small group of congregational members have been working with our pastors to create a focused ministry at First Congregational Church for older adults. This group is known as the FCC Elder Council. Just as we have ministries for children, youth and families, we believe that our later years bring into our lives many distinct issues and opportunities with a spiritual dimension. It is for this reason that we have developed and offered a series of activities these past several years related to a spirituality of aging. These activities have included Elder Sunday, the Third Act luncheon series, the Intergenerational Cafe series and a number of book groups, forums and workshops.
The FCC Elder Council usually meets in the church library. Non-church members are welcome to attend the meetings as well. We welcome ideas you might have related to the mission of the Elder Council.
Elder Council mission statement (adopted May, 2013):
The mission (purpose) of the Elder Council at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Eugene, is to embrace aging as a spiritual journey throughout one’s lifetime, to learn and share the lessons and resources of aging and to offer to the congregation the wisdom and gifts of eldership.
The Third Act
Due to the Coronavirus, this program is not currently running.
The Third Act is a ministry that provides fellowship and information of interest to older adults (ages 60 and up) through a monthly catered luncheon and speaker series. Events in this series are typically held on the third Monday of each month in the fall, winter and spring, at 11:30 a.m. in the Wheeler Room.
