“The Interregnum”, Don Gall, Facilitator via Zoom

February 21 to March 28, 9 a.m.
A Baptist, a Catholic, and a Neo-Pagan Shaman walked into a bar and ordered a … wait a minute! That wasn’t a bar and this isn’t a joke! Those were people who stormed the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021 and what they did there revealed an unsettling development in the re-alignment of religion and politics in America. For not only was it an insurrection in the name of a demagogue to overthrow our democracy, it was also the manifestation of a new and deepening alliance between heretofore disparate groups that are now coming together in pursuit of a common goal: the re-making of America in their own image.

During these precarious and uncertain times, we are challenged to rethink and recommit ourselves to what it means for us to be the United Church of Christ in Eugene and in the United States of America. (Interregnum: a period of discontinuity or a “gap” in a government, organization, or social order)
