October 1, 2023

Global Missions invites the congregation to join us on Sunday, October 1 for World Communion Sunday. We will celebrate 10 years of educational partnership with the island of Tasajera, El Salvador; this partnership has contributed to 150 students attending and graduating from high school as well as many from college and/or technical school! Thank you First Congregational Church for supporting this ministry with your friendship, prayers and financial support.

This will be a particularly special World Communion Sunday, as a few days prior we will be welcoming a first time ever delegation from Tasajera! On September 27 we will welcome Leslie Schuld, CIS (Centro de Intercambio y Solidaridad) director and Elsa Solano, Tasajera CIS scholarship recipient and teacher.

Please contact the church office if you can offer homestay during their week in Eugene, or hospitality day trips so that they can visit our many beautiful places. For World Communion Sunday on October 1, Leslie and Elsa will speak at 9 a.m. in the Wheeler Room. At the 10 a.m. worship service, we will offer a children’s moment and communion service. A fiesta potluck and ‘young at heart’ piñata in Fellowship Hall will follow. More information to come.

Please visit our table during the September 10th Mission/Ministry Fair. We will have profiles of some of our students and information about joining the Global Ministry committee. We will also have backpacks and bags available for sale created by the Tasajera, El Salvador Women’s Sewing Co-op.

Be sure to check out the Kiosk in the church lobby, which has a display of the history of this wonderful Global Ministry and partnership. We have so much to be thankful for!
