Congratulations to our dynamite group and to all SSP participants in Del Norte, California, who returned from their work week on July 14. Our deepest gratitude goes out to our whole FCC congregation who made this trip possible and supported our group with prayer, time and resources. This summer we sent a group of 12 youth, ages 12 to 18, and 3 adult chaperones. As you can see from the pictures, this was a fantastic trip with an abundance of opportunities for spiritual transformation and service. They also had a ton of fun!

We hope you were able to join us for our commissioning of the group during worship on July 9, which was a beautiful opportunity to experience the impact that our ’Ohana Youth Ministry is making in the lives of our young people. Whether you were there or if you missed it, you are invited to join us in worship on Sunday, September 10, as participants will have an opportunity to share their experience with our congregation. Work teams served at Tolowa Dunes with the Tolowa Dee-ni Nation, at food forests, gardens, the redwood forest, building bridges and wheelchair ramps, invasive species removal, trail maintenance, and the list goes on! The theme for this summer was “Branching Out!”, and our group did just that.

Our heartfelt thanks go out to our adult chaperones: Scott Detmer, Deven Holmgren and Jim Roelof – this trip would not have happened without you! Our youth participants included: Miles Detmer, Fran Gill, Gayle Gomsrud, Marin Hoeh, Raiko Holmgren, Vesna Holmgren, Joren Lindberg, Tomas Parzuchowski, Julia Roelof, Kate Starlin, Scarlett Travis, and Stone Travis.

After seeing pictures and hearing from our youth on September 10, we are confident that many of you will want to participate as adult chaperones next year, so please contact Youth Minister Mark Lindberg at markl@fcceugene.org with your interest. It’s never too early to commit and we will have our Summer 2024 dates by this November. What a fantastic way to experience our ’Ohana Youth Ministries and get involved!
