We’re launching a new worship and formation series called The Prayer We Thought We Knew: Rediscovering the Lord’s Prayer Across Faith Traditions (September 20–October 25), and I’m genuinely excited about what it could mean for our congregation.
Few words in Christianity are more familiar than the Lord’s Prayer. Many of us have been saying it for most of our lives. But what if its very familiarity has kept us from hearing just how radical, beautiful, and challenging it actually is? What if a prayer we have repeated for decades could somehow become a living prayer again?
Over six weeks, we’ll move through the Lord’s Prayer line by line—not simply studying its words, but allowing them to become strange enough that we can hear them again. Along the way, we’ll also listen to what other faith traditions can teach us about the spiritual terrain Jesus is inviting us into.
