Movie Group meets Thursday, March 11th at 2 p.m.

Movie group concept: It’s like a book group in that we pick a movie to watch on our own, then discuss it together. If you’ve been interested in some of the impressive and thought-provoking movies coming out these days, this group is for you! Our first movie group meeting, which discussed One Night in Miami, provided stimulating conversation and sharing of participants’ memories of the United States in the 1960’s plus discussions of the 1960’s compared to our current times.

Next Movie: The United States vs. Billie Holiday (2021). It’s streaming on Hulu.

Description: The United States vs. Billie Holiday takes place in the 1940s in New York and follows Holiday, who is targeted by the federal government in its growing efforts to escalate and racialize the war on drugs, ultimately aiming to stop her from singing her controversial ballad “Strange Fruit.” Holiday’s defiance through music would help usher in the civil rights movement.
