One of our active and dynamic church committees is our Adult Education and Spiritual Life Committee. Adult Education is a vital part of our church’s ministry, seeking to make available stimulating, educational, spiritually enriching, and connection-building Sunday morning experiences. Committee members plan the topics for the 9:00 hour and seek facilitators from the congregation and community who will bring rich offerings.  We seek to present a diverse range of topics that are current and informative to our church body and the community.

Adult Ed may also support programming on Wednesday nights and at other times during the week.

Under the umbrella of Adult Education is The Elder Council, which creates a number of offerings throughout the year, aimed specifically at those in their “third act” of life.  The Elder Council organizes Third Act luncheons, Intergenerational Cafe, book discussions, small groups and presentations periodically.

In the past, the Adult Education Committee has coordinated Biblically based discussions, Sacred Conversations on Gun Violence, Racism, Immigration, Climate Change, Christian and Islamic Beliefs, Criminal Justice and Income Inequality. We did a month long book club on “Living Buddha, Living Christ” as well as one on the book “Zealot”. We had a four week series on White Christian Nationalism followed by four weeks examining The Holy Spirit. Diverse offerings are shaped by the committee and church members and lay leaders who bring topics of interest forward.

This committee seeks to provide a safe space for all participants to speak their truths and hear those of others. Discussions and information presented are sometimes challenging, but should always be respectful of all participants and viewpoints. These discussions allow us to challenge our current thoughts and perspectives, and always look to align with our Progressive Christian faith.

This committee aims to foster a rich community that is ever expanding our awareness, opening to hearing Spirit in old and new ways, and engaging in meaningful actions from a place of compassion and love.
