Dear Friends and Members,

This month will mark 16 months of ministry with you. I am encouraged by what we have done and are still doing together, writing the newest chapter in FCC’s mission story of welcoming, seeking, loving, and serving in Christian community. This is a chapter about transition into ministry where the laity are empowered to vision and do ministry and where this body of Christ learns to speak the truth in love. It is a chapter about the health of the body of Christ and preparing for the unfolding future.

There are many threads in this chapter. The Search Team is active and doing its patient work of actively receiving profiles and discerning prospects for the next settled Lead Pastor of FCC. A new FCC Board is now empowered with 5 new members to move into visioning the future. This month, construction will begin on the totally new sound and video systems.

Last week, I sent a letter on another important piece of FCC’s future: increasing our pastoral ministry capacity. This month and next we will offer times of learning about and discussing a Board approved proposal to create a 2 year, 3/4 time Associate Minister position, calling Mark Lindberg to that position. I am enthusiastic about the proposal. Mark is excited about the possibility. On Sunday, August 25, the congregation will vote on the proposal.

As I said, I am encouraged by what we have done together and what we are doing. It is energizing for me as an interim minister to begin to write my last chapters with you in these remaining months of 2024. There is more yet to do; time, worship together, work and play together, support the health of this body of Christ that lives out ministries of compassion and justice. I’m going to enjoy our time this summer and fall.

I am taking some needed vacation at home in the first few days of July and look forward to seeing you in communion worship on July 7 (with Don Gall preaching) as well as the 14 and 28. Averyn Payne will preach on July 21 when I am leading a retreat in Colorado.
