In April, the Social Justice and Witness (SJW) committee voted to endorse the work of Outreach Theater, a newly forming theater group with several FCC members. They hope to use theater to increase understanding of the issues that are polarizing our community such as homophobia, racism and issues around housing.

The committee also voted to expand our efforts to support immigrants and refugees in our community by partnering with Refugee & Immigrant Services Program (RISP). Lisa Livelybrooks leads our efforts with the support of Mary Otten.

About $1,000 was donated to the SJW committee in honor of the life of Pete Peterson. We voted to donate $500 to the Eugene Mission and their Life Change Program (an amazing new program at the Mission), and to devote $500 to education and training that will expand awareness of issues facing the LGBTQA community (for example, the recent webinars sponsored by our ONA group).

SJW will host a table in the lobby in May featuring Bags of Love. This non-profit provides bags of needed items to children experiencing trauma, newly placed into foster care, etc. Bags of Love is in need of more people to sew quilts and bags for the children. Learn more!
