Thank you, dear congregation, for supporting our young people to experience the themes of Love is Greater than Fear, Love God, Love the World, Love Others, and Love Life at WRYE. Our teens made new friends, built community, learned how our UCC denomination cares for each other and the wider world, and had fun together – so much fun! I feel so lucky that I was able to spend a week with our amazing youth!

We are grateful for the congregation’s and Central Pacific Conference financial support – and for our Board and Transition Team sending 180 Eugene Euphoria Chocolate bars and a taste of home for the event swag bags. Please ask our youth about their favorite service projects, workshops, speakers, or ride at Disneyland – they will gladly tell you of the ways that participating in WRYE has positively impacted their lives.

‘Ohana Youth participate in UCC Western Regional Youth Event!

June 23-27, 2024

Western Regional Youth Event (WRYE) is an event that happens every four years. Youth (6th – 12th grade, including recent graduates) from churches in the United Church of Christ in the western half of the United States come together for music, inspirational speakers, direct service opportunities, workshops, games, fun and connections with UCC youth.

The theme this year is “Love is Greater than Fear.” Youth are attending from 8 of our Western Conferences – thirteen states – from Hawaii to Colorado, from Washington to New Mexico. Because of the pandemic this will be our first chance to gather since our last WRYE trip to Honolulu in 2018! That’s a whole generation of middle and high school students! We’re incredibly excited to make WRYE a reality again and deeply grateful for the support of our FCC community which is making this trip possible.

Our ‘Ohana Youth will experience what it’s like to be a part of something bigger than the local church as we join with youth groups from across the country. This year, Elly Vandegrift and Mark Lindberg will be leading 14 youth participants to California State University at Long Beach, where we will be joined by 175 youth, our Conference Minister, Rev. Tyler Connelly, and our United Church of Christ President and General Minister, Rev. Karen Georgia Thompson. We anticipate that this journey will bring us all closer and provide momentum as we head into our Sierra Service Project trip in July and a new program year this fall.

Our 2024 WRYE youth participants are: Elise Chapman, Miles Detmer, Ciri Foy, Clay Foy, Fran Gill, Vesna Holmgren, Joren Lindberg, Jo Nuckols, Rose Nuckols, Tomas Parzuchowski, Neci Pfeiffer, Stone Travis, Jewel Travis, and Judah Williams. Thank you for holding us in your prayers for a safe and meaningful experience.
