Your FCC Board, Executive Leadership, and committees have been hard at work getting ready for our new program year starting in September. A major focus has been discerning who Spirit is calling to join our FCC ministry. We’re currently seeking candidates for four key roles: Associate Pastor, Financial and Business Administrator, Youth Ministry Coordinator, and Children & Middle School Ministry Coordinator.
We are deeply grateful to everyone giving their time, energy, and care to this search process. Keep an eye on the FCC Daily Email and the September Shalom for announcements as these roles are filled!
As we all soak in the summer months with family, friends, and nature, we also want to hold space in our hearts for Jim Brown—a longtime FCC member and humble leader who passed away on July 13th—and for his wife of 63 years, Jane, and their family.
Since joining FCC in 1970, Jim served in many and varied church leadership and participant roles—earning a well-deserved reputation as a church “Saint.” Jim viewed his life as a prayer of service. He helped actively shape FCC’s open and affirming vision and was a faithful witness and advocate for others on their spiritual journeys. He will be deeply missed.
In closing, I invite you all to thoughtfully consider a reflection Jim shared with many— including his brothers from the Men’s Bible Study Group—and how we might bring it into our own daily lives:
“I begin each morning by cupping my hands together, filling them with cold water, and splashing it on my face three times to remind me to be attentive to the God within and beyond me. I am not done, as I am open to new service and consider myself a ‘work in progress.’ For me, and for many, some questions cannot be answered today, so I must join the ancient people with similar questions, looking to God or giving credit to God.
Tony Foy, Board Moderator
*Please note, there will not be a regular Board meeting in August due to summer vacation/travel. We will return to our regular meeting schedule of the third Wednesday of each month from 5 to 7 p.m., on September 16. All members are welcome.
