Have you heard about the Fix-It Fairs? An FCC Green Team member wants you to know there’s one coming up on September 20 and that you might like advance notice so you can think about what you might want to get repaired. More information is available at fixitlanecounty.org. From their website:
- September 20, 2026 at noon
- BRING, 4446 Franklin Blvd., Eugene
About the event: Please limit what you bring to one (1) item per person, which should be something one person can carry without assistance. While our repair staff and volunteers will do our best, fixes cannot be guaranteed. Repair times may vary from several minutes to two hours, depending on crowd size and the complication of repairs.
We hope all attendees view Fix-It Fairs as more than just a place to fix your stuff for free. We hope you learn repair skills and mingle with fellow attendees and fixers in a spirit of inclusivity and connection. Whether it’s engaging in conversations or simply people watching, Fix-It Fairs are—at their core—about community.
Or try this: go to www.ifixit.com and get a free repair manual that you can edit. From their website:
“Never take broken for an answer. Get the instructions you need with quality repair parts and tools and the expertise of a robust community. Repair guides for everything, written by everyone. We help thousands of people repair their things every day. Every time you fix something, you help the planet.”
And another on the Green Team shared, “In that same realm The Toolbox Project (2235 Adams St, Eugene, OR 97405, https://www.eugenetoolboxproject.org/) is a great resource for a variety of tools. (We rented an electric post hole digger for a week for $10.)
And fix your own bike stand at Shift Community Cycles (811 W 6th Ave, Eugene, OR 97402, http://shiftcc.org/).”
Do you have Personal Green Choices to share with all of us? I will collect them for future segments. Contact Marilyn Flick.
