Making sandwiches for Neighbors in Need

According to the Oregonian, 70,000 people in Oregon have lost their supplemental food benefits or SNAP benefits in the past months due to cuts by the current federal administration. FCC’s Social Justice and Witness Committee is spending time this summer looking at the impact of these cuts on low-income people in Lane County and looking for ways that FCC can do our part to help meet local needs.

In June, the SJW Committee donated $1,500 to Neighbors Feeding Neighbors. Our Tuesday sandwich making group supports this effort and this additional donation will go towards the purchase of more food, paper plates, and some of the items needed to serve 300 people each day.

The Committee also approved a donation of $1,200 to the Interfaith Food Hub, our second donation in 2026 to this organization. IFH is a collaborative project that provided more than 73,000 meals last year to participants in the programs of White Bird Clinic, HIV Alliance, First Place Family Center, Community Supported Shelters, Square One Village, Helping Hearts, Everyone Village, and the Garfield Safe Sleep Spot. Their main activity is preparing more than 1,500 bagged meals for distribution at partner agencies six days a week.

Neighbors Feeding Neighbors and the Interfaith Food Hub are both seeking volunteers. Contact socialjustice@fcceugene.org If you are interested, and we will connect you with member so four congregation who are already volunteering.
