Thank you to everyone who participated in our recent congregational discussions focused on the 2026 budget and our shared financial goals. The Finance Committee’s dedication was evident in their delivery of the budget four months earlier than in previous years, allowing for continued transparency and thoughtful conversation. Many members expressed appreciation for the openness and collaboration throughout the process, and it is encouraging to see our congregation moving forward together with a renewed sense of unity.
Our October Meeting was both wide and deep. We took action on a number of issue brought to us by active committees:
Approved a revised investment policy proposed by the Endowment Committee that instructs our financial advisor to prioritize ESG investments (Environmental, Social, Governance) ensuring that at least 50% of our funds are allocated to companies that demonstrate strong commitments to sustainability, ethical practices, and responsible governance. This decision reflects our dedication to aligning our financial resources with our core values.
Approved spending of $80,000 over two years from the Service House Funds to support a partnership with Hosea Youth Services and Connected Lane County for unhoused youth. Our Social Justice and Witness committee has done an amazing job in their work with these two organizations to develop a program for lasting impact and sustainability beyond our initial funding. The grants will be made after the review and approval of a Memorandum of Understanding between FCC Eugene and the two organizations.
Voted to support Deena Wolfe as a Member in Discernment for ordination, and sent a letter of support to the Central Pacific Conference. Deena is a valued member of our congregation, and is already engaged in ministry as a Chaplain for Hospice. We are excited to support the next steps in her call journey.
Voted to engage Jennie Sherlock as an Independent Contractor for the 2025–26 year to lead and facilitate the Our Whole Lives: Sexuality and Our Faith (OWL) program for middle-school youth. After identifying sufficient student participation to relaunch the program and confirming that designated OWL funds were available to support it, the Board approved an agreement with Jennie that enables us to move forward with this important ministry in the coming year.
Approved an Addendum to the Safe Church Policy that protects and affirms safety and dignity for all church participants, outlines steps on how we address issues where there are concerns.
Learned more about the “Caring Connections” program. Associate Pastor Mark Lindberg manages this program that matches families or members in need with trained volunteers ready to provide support. Through this program, and other efforts, we are organizing ourselves to better support and sustain each other
