On June 22, twelve members of FCC toured Connected Lane County (CLC), the partner agency with Hosea Youth Services in our “ Pathways to Employment for Unhoused Youth” project.
During the tour, Jesse Nelson introduced the group to the mission, values and resources available at CLC. We toured the facility, observed the site where the first two youth from Hosea learned to design and build a trailer with welding and wood working skills. We learned about the opportunities and challenges presented to at-risk youth in Lane County. The tour was inspiring and held much hope that this collaboration will break new ground in helping unhoused youth in our community gain valuable job skills.
How can you help? Are you involved in a business or do you know someone who would be willing to mentor a youth in a job site? Manufacturing, medical office, tech skills? Connected Lane County is looking for job placement sites for youth. Youth will be paid by CLC for up to 12 weeks of this internship but they will require nurturing and support from the job site. If you can help, contact socialjustice@fcceugene.org.
